3-Day Desert Adventure from Marrakech to Fes
Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou – Skoura – Dades Valley
We begin our adventure early in the morning, leaving the vibrant energy of Marrakech behind as we ascend the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains. Crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), we’re rewarded with sweeping views of rugged peaks and traditional villages perched on the hillsides.
Our first stop is the quiet mountain town of Telouet, home to the once-glorious Kasbah of the Glaoui family. Step inside this palace of faded grandeur and imagine the days when it was a powerful stronghold on the ancient caravan route.

Next, we continue to the iconic Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar that rises from the desert like a sandcastle. Wander through its narrow alleys and climb to the top for panoramic views of the Ounila Valley—a timeless setting that has starred in many famous films.
After lunch, the road leads us through Ouarzazate, known for its film studios and ancient kasbahs, and into the Skoura Oasis, where the beautifully preserved Amridil Kasbah offers a window into traditional desert architecture and life.
As the sun dips lower, we arrive in the spectacular Dades Valley, with its winding river, dramatic rock formations, and lush gardens. Settle into your charming riad or guesthouse for dinner and rest, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the gorges.
Day 2: Dades – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Desert Camp
After breakfast, we continue through the rugged beauty of the Dades Valley, heading toward Tinghir, a lush oasis town that marks the gateway to the stunning Todra Gorge. Here, sheer cliffs tower up to 300 meters above a crystal-clear river—a favorite for climbers and a haven of peace for travelers.
From here, the landscapes shift as we cross the stony plains of the pre-Sahara, arriving in Erfoud, known for its ancient fossils and date production. A short drive brings us to Rissani, once a major trading post and the birthplace of Morocco’s current royal dynasty.

By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga, where the towering Erg Chebbi sand dunes greet us with golden curves sculpted by the wind. Climb aboard a camel for a peaceful ride into the heart of the dunes, just in time to catch a magical desert sunset.
Tonight, experience the warmth of Berber hospitality at a luxury desert camp, where a traditional dinner is served under the stars, followed by local music and stories around the fire.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Fez
Wake early to witness the sun rise over the Sahara—a gentle, awe-inspiring moment that lingers in memory. After breakfast and a final camel ride back to Merzouga, we set off for the imperial city of Fez.
Our route winds through the majestic Ziz Valley, lined with date palms and ancient kasbahs, and into the Middle Atlas Mountains, a region of cedar forests, volcanic peaks, and alpine-style villages.

Along the way, you’ll pass through Midelt and small Berber towns where time seems to stand still. With scenic breaks and time to stretch your legs, we continue north, eventually reaching Fez by late afternoon—marking the end of an unforgettable Moroccan journey.
