3-Day Desert Experience from Fez to Marrakech
Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga
Your adventure begins in the historic city of Fez. Travel south to Ifrane, a picturesque town often called the Switzerland of Morocco, known for its European-style houses and clean streets.
Continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, where you may spot wild Barbary macaques. From there, pass through the High Atlas town of Midelt, the perfect stop for a scenic lunch break surrounded by mountain views.
Head deeper into the south, reaching Erfoud, a gateway to the desert famed for its fossils and date palms. As the sun begins to set, arrive in Merzouga, where a camel caravan will lead you across the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi.
Enjoy a mesmerizing sunset ride, followed by dinner and an unforgettable night in a luxury camp beneath the Saharan stars.
Day 2: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, then return by camel to the village for breakfast.
Depart for the dramatic Todra Gorge, where towering rock walls flank a lush oasis below. Take time to wander through the narrow canyon and enjoy the cool, fresh air.
Later, journey to the spectacular Dades Valley, known for its bizarre rock formations and winding switchback roads. Spend the night in a charming guesthouse or hotel nestled among the red canyons.
Day 3: Dades – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, travel through the Valley of Roses, passing through Kalaat M’Gouna, famous for its rose-based products.
Arrive in Skoura, home to sprawling palm groves and the 17th-century Kasbah Amridil, one of Morocco’s most photogenic fortified homes.
Continue to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa,” where you can visit the Taourirt Kasbah and, if desired, explore the Atlas Studios.
Next, discover the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a backdrop to many famous films.
Finally, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, descending into the vibrant city of Marrakech, where your journey concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation.
