6-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to the Sahara

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Agdz

Your adventure begins in Marrakech, where you’ll explore key highlights such as the medina, the bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square, and the iconic Koutoubia Mosque.

After a taste of local cuisine, depart south through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.

Your route leads to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its mud-brick architecture and role in countless films.

Continue to Agdz, an ancient caravan stop nestled at the edge of the Draa Valley, where you’ll unwind in a comfortable hotel surrounded by palm groves and kasbahs.

Day 2: Agdz – Nkob – Tazarine – Tafraout Sidi Ali

Travel through the serene beauty of Nkob, a Berber village adorned with 45 kasbahs and surrounded by date palms. Stop in Tazarine, a hidden gem that offers a glimpse into authentic southern Moroccan life, untouched by mass tourism.

By late afternoon, arrive in the peaceful village of Tafraout Sidi Ali, nestled between desert plateaus and rocky hills. Here, you’ll enjoy dinner and rest in a tranquil hotel away from the tourist trail.

Day 3: Tafraout Sidi Ali – Ramlia – Merzouga

Today’s journey takes you off the beaten path through remote villages and desert tracks. Pass through Ramlia, known for its golden dunes and raw desert charm. This region offers a true sense of isolation and connection with nature.

Reach Merzouga, at the foot of the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. A camel caravan will carry you into the heart of the Sahara. Watch the sunset paint the dunes in gold and crimson before settling into your desert camp for a night under the stars, complete with dinner and Berber music by the fire.

Day 4: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Khamlia – Merzouga

Wake to the first light of dawn over the dunes. After breakfast, explore the Erg Chebbi region, starting with a camel trek across the sand sea.

Visit the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnaoua people, where you’ll enjoy a performance of their hypnotic music—a spiritual legacy of African roots. Return to the camp or a local guesthouse for the night, where the desert quiet and stars above continue to captivate.

Day 5: Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate

Depart Merzouga and head toward Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops and Saharan culture. Continue to the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges, where sheer rock walls rise dramatically above a lush, green riverbed.

Drive through the stunning Dades Valley, known for its winding roads and unusual rock formations, before visiting the Kasbah Amridil in Skoura, one of Morocco’s most beautiful fortified homes.

End the day in Ouarzazate, where you’ll rest in a comfortable hotel near the “Hollywood of Africa.”

Day 6: Ouarzazate – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, begin your return to Marrakech. Cross the High Atlas Mountains once more, enjoying panoramic views of red earth villages, terraced slopes, and snow-capped peaks.

Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your unforgettable Moroccan odyssey ends.
