9-Day Moroccan Journey from Tangier to Marrakech

Day 1: Tangier – Ouazzan – Chefchaouen

Begin your adventure in Tangier, departing early for the Rif Mountains. En route, pass through Ouazzan, a town famed for its traditional Moroccan wool garments called jellabas.

By afternoon, arrive in the magical Chefchaouen, Morocco’s iconic blue city. Enjoy a relaxed walk through its charming alleys and wrap up your day with a breathtaking sunset over the mountains.

Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

After breakfast, take in a final stroll through Chefchaouen’s peaceful medina before departing.

Stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site where impressive mosaics and arches stand as testaments to Morocco’s Roman legacy. Continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, to visit the grand Bab Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

By evening, arrive in Fes and settle into a cozy riad for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Full Day Exploring Fes

Explore the cultural capital of Morocco with a local guide. Begin in Fes el-Jdid, visiting the Jewish Quarter (Mellah) and the Royal Palace. Then dive into the ancient medina of Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO-listed labyrinth of alleys brimming with artisans, tanneries, spice stalls, and centuries-old madrasas.

In the evening, relax with a walk through the Ville Nouvelle, Fes’s French-built district, and enjoy a local café.

Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga

Leave Fes and head into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine architecture and clean air. Continue through Azrou’s cedar forests, home to Barbary macaques.

After a lunch break in Midelt, journey through the Ziz Valley to Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara.
Enjoy a traditional dinner and overnight in a desert riad or hotel.

Day 5: Sahara Desert – Camel Trek & Berber Experience

Rise early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast, take a guided camel trek into the heart of the desert, learning about the ecosystem and nomadic culture.

Enjoy a typical nomadic lunch before returning to Merzouga in the afternoon. Unwind with a traditional hammam and savor a delicious dinner.

Spend the night in a desert camp or hotel under the starry sky.

Day 6: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Leave the dunes behind as you head west to the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges. Take a walk through the towering rock canyons, a favorite for hikers and photographers alike.

Continue to the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic red rock formations and traditional kasbahs.

Day 7: Dades Valley – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech

Travel toward Ouarzazate, stopping to visit the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage site featured in films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with sweeping views of Berber villages and dramatic peaks.
Arrive in Marrakech by evening.

Day 8: Discovering Marrakech

Spend a full day exploring the “Red City” of Marrakech. Visit the lush Majorelle Garden, the exquisite Bahia Palace, and the solemn Saadian Tombs.

Admire the Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakech’s largest, then dive into the colorful chaos of the Djemaa El Fna square, alive with musicians, snake charmers, storytellers, and local food vendors.

Day 9: Marrakech – Departure
