5-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Adventure
Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet – Ounila Valley – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Begin your desert adventure with an early morning departure from Marrakech, heading south toward the High Atlas Mountains. Cross the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering panoramic views of traditional Berber villages and terraced fields.
Your first cultural stop is the Kasbah of Telouet, once home to the influential Glaoui family. This lesser-known gem boasts intricate tilework and a rich historical legacy.

Travel through the Ounila Valley, a hidden route filled with charming adobe villages and lush greenery, before arriving at Ait Ben Haddou, the most iconic ksar in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its cinematic history (Gladiator, Game of Thrones), this fortified village offers stunning views and centuries-old architecture.
End the day in Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, where you’ll relax in a comfortable hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Valley of Roses – Dades Gorges
After breakfast, explore the historic Kasbah Taourirt, once a vital stop for Saharan caravans. Then continue to the Skoura Oasis, where you’ll visit the Kasbah Amridil, one of Morocco’s most beautifully preserved fortress-homes.
Continue through the breathtaking Valley of Roses, famous for its annual rose harvest and the delicate aroma that fills the air during spring.
By afternoon, reach the dramatic Dades Valley, where jagged cliffs, winding roads, and unusual rock formations create a stunning backdrop. Spend the night in a charming hotel nestled within the Dades Gorges.

Day 3: Dades – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Sahara Desert Camp
Today, begin your journey toward the Sahara, with scenic stops in Boumalne Dades and Tinghir, small Berber towns surrounded by palm groves.
Visit the dramatic Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls soar over 300 meters, making it one of Morocco’s most striking natural wonders.

Continue through the arid plains to Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops, then head to Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, a camel caravan awaits to take you deep into the heart of the Sahara.
Watch the sun dip below the golden dunes, then enjoy a traditional Berber dinner around the campfire. Spend the night in a luxury tent beneath a sky full of stars, with live music and sandboarding adding to the magic.
Day 4: Merzouga – Tamegroute – Zagora
Awake early to catch a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at the camp. Ride your camel back to Merzouga and begin the journey to Zagora, crossing vast desert landscapes dotted with hidden oases and Berber settlements.

Along the way, visit Tamegroute, home to a unique pottery workshop and one of the oldest Islamic libraries in Morocco. Discover rare manuscripts and the region’s green-glazed ceramics before continuing to Zagora, where you’ll spend the night in a local hotel, experiencing the desert’s more remote and tranquil side.
Day 5: Zagora – Draa Valley – High Atlas – Return to Marrakech
On your final day, travel north through the lush Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river oasis, lined with endless palm groves and kasbahs. Pass through Berber villages and the changing scenery of the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass once again.
Arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon or early evening, where your unforgettable desert journey concludes with hotel drop-off and a heart full of memories.
